The 2019 Hawk Counter and Educator/Intern

The annual Hawkwatch at Kiptopeke State Park is once again in full swing! Returning to the CVWO Hawkwatch for the fourth season is Anna Stunkel. She is a skilled hawk watcher who has worked in multiple locations across the country identifying raptors. Anna is responsible for counting and recording the different birds of prey migrating this fall.

Joining Anna on the platform is this year's new intern/educator, Megan Murante. She is a recent graduate from the University of Rochester with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. As the educator, she will be greeting visitors that come to the platform, as well as explaining the importance of recording the migration at Kiptopeke.

This year is significant since it is the 25th anniversary of Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory. Please visit us at the Kiptopeke Hawkwatch Platform, and hopefully you will be able to see some of the many interesting species passing through! If you are interested in viewing the numbers of birds counted, please visit hawkcount.org or click here
